Authorities need your help in locating Herbert Perez Maldonado H/M/12/23/1970. Maldonado is wanted in the November 23, 2002 slaying of Lori Ann Mejia, 29.

Ms. Mejia`s body was found behind a mechanic`s shop in an industrial park inside the city limits of Pilot Point.at 11:00 pm. Texas Ranger Tracey Murphree stated that it appears she was violently beaten to death. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Herberto Perez Maldonado, 31, believed to live in the Collinsville area.

Mr. Maldonado, who sometimes uses the name Leonardo Sanchez, is not a legal resident, the Ranger said, and may be trying to leave the United States for Vera Cruz, Mexico, where he was born.

Ranger Murphree said Ms. Mejia went to an after-business-hours party at the mechanic shop with a friend. She and Maldonado left the party together and the shop’s owner found her body about 11 p.m. behind the business.

The two apparently met at the party, he said, and had not previously known each other. There was no apparent motive.
